The Choice
Directed by Yasin Erik Bognar

In the besieged city of Ramallah, a father and his daughter are both faced with choices. Choices that can provide hope and salvation for both… providing they are prepared to accept the consequences. The Choice is a beguiling short in which father and daughter are each compelled to choose how to deal with grief.

Man without a Cellphone
Sameh Zoabi | France, Palestine, Israël, Belgium, Qatar | 2011 | 78 minutes

Twenty-something Palestinian-Israeli Jawdat just wants to have fun with his friends, talk on his cellphone and find love. Instead, he navigates unconvincing dates with Muslim, Christian, and Jewish girls, and wrestles with the Hebrew college entrance exam. Meanwhile, his curmudgeonly olive-farming father, Salem, is determined to drag Jawdat and his whole community into a fight against a nearby Israeli cellphone tower that he fears is poisoning the villagers with radiation. As Salem’s efforts to remove the tower disrupt Jawdat’s precious cell phone reception, preventing any further communication with his potential girlfriends, Jawdat is forced to face the battle and grow up to be a man.  Find out more about the story behind the making of the film either by watching an interview with the director featured on the BBC or reading the directors note.
