Resistance Recipes

Friday 29th November, 2013, at 18:30 to 21:00
Hamilton House, BS1 3QY

Presented in partnership with coexist and the community kitchen…

Dasa Raimanova, film director (Resistance Recipes) will be preparing mouth-watering recipes inspired by what she learned in Palestine. Her film Resistance Recipes is an insightful look at cuisine and agriculture in the West Bank. The film provides a source of inspiration for those interested sustainability – exploring thousand year old irrigation systems and attempts to farm organic home-grown vegetables, in order to avoid dependencies on produce farmed encroaching settlements.  We will also be screening Maqloubech by Palestinian refugee Nicolas Damuni.  A short film centred on a traditional Palestinian dish with ingredients that vary from town to town – When five young students from different backgrounds share an apartment in Ramallah at first they are in disaccord over the ingredients, the friends finally find a common ground to finish the dish. An unexpected guest interrupts them before they are able to sit and enjoy the meal…

The screening will end with a Q&A with the director and some delicious food!
